KMC Presents:
In Memory of Darren Stanfel

This pony belonged to Darren Stanfel, and has now been passed on to his father, Larry Stanfel. Darren passed away on July 24th, 2001 due to complications with Cystic Fibrosis. Darren was able to write this article before he passed away!
In 1989, Darren and his father discovered this beautiful 1967 Fastback 2+2, dark moss green in color, at Roundup 1989 in Bellevue. It came equipped with a 289 4V, premium fuel, 4 speed top loader transmission, axle ration 3.00:1, with options: fog lights, AM/FM radio, power steering, power disc brakes, roof/floor consoles, deluxe instrument cluster, tinted glass, and Ivy gold interior. They were not able to purchase the pony until January of 1990.
This particular Mustang was manufactured in the Dearborn, MI assembly plant, and was scheduled for production on December 19, 1966, but then actual production of this pony was December 28, 1966. According to the VIN#, it was the 36,015 vehicle produced for 1967 and was originally purchased in the Kansas City area. By the early 1980's it somehow made it's way to the Northwest, where a man in Renton, WA owned it, and according to receipts passed along, that owner had restored the interior and then sold it.
When we came to own this Mustang, we rebuilt the engine in June of 1995, and in July of 1995 it was repainted to factory specs. This Mustang was special to Darren because it was almost an exact replica of his father Larry's Mustang that Larry had purchased new and no longer has. Darren and his family moved to Bremerton in 1999 from the Bellevue area. They became members of the Kitsap Mustang Club in July of 2000, and were members of Mustangs Northwest prior to KMC. It was Darren's concept and design for the 2001 KMC show T-shirts! The 2001 Mustangs on the Waterfront Show was put on in memory of Darren, who was truly a Mustang enthusiast in every sense of the term!
