THE HISTORY OF THE KITSAP MUSTANG CLUB:
The first preliminary club meeting was held on 11/19/87 at Pietro's Pizza on Wheaton Way in Bremerton. Sixty people were there to answer the question; "Do we want to start a Mustang club in this area"? The answer was a unanimous, "YES".
The first Board Members were elected that night: President: Woody Jacobson; Vice President: Rick Zimburean; Secretary/Treasurer: Cindy Cook; Membership: Ole Watson; Tech and Program: Ryan McConnell; Tours and Events: Rob Campbell; Newsletter Editor: Louis Sellers.
This group met on 12/7/87 at the Cook's house, where work on the Club's constitution began. The Constitution was ratified on 12/16/87.
The first newsletter, entitled "The Mustang Newsletter", invited people to the first general meeting of the Club, held 1/27/88 at the Cascade Natural Gas building on Kitsap Way. That night "Kitsap Mustang Club" was chosen as the official club name. Olympic College Science Room S-136 became our "home" as of the 2/26/88 General Meeting. By April of 1988 we had 46 members.
1998 marked the tenth anniversary of the Kitsap Mustang Club. To quote 1998 Club President Ed Rohrbaugh, "From the beginning, the Kitsap Mustang Club has had but one goal - to celebrate ownership of a Mustang. Although the Kitsap Mustang Club is a small club, we enthusiastically support the Mustang image with a multitude of activities for members throughout the year".
Today the Club still has over 50 active members and over 75 cars are represented. Over the years we've shared many fun experiences and have made lasting friendships. We've attended many shows, road trips, swap meets, poker runs, and local Cruise-ins. Weve joined together helping one-another restore and care for our vintage Mustangs. Weve participated together in community projects. We strive to continue these events!
In the Kitsap Mustang Club, it can be said that "ownership of a Mustang is not only a lifestyle...it is a way of life". We join fellow Mustang enthusiasts in cyberspace, reaching across the world, to celebrate the Mustang, and show how Kitsap Mustang Club pays tribute to this legendary automobile!
