Kitsap Mustang Club Presents

Mark & Sue Corbett's 1968 Coupe

We found this 68 coupe in a small car lot outside of Poulsbo. We must have driven by for a month before we stopped to have a look. To our delight it was mostly original and complete, its only major flay being severe collision damage to the passenger door, (if you were at last years mall show you saw this first hand) .Price negotiated and we drove her home. Of course after a more thorough inspection it became apparent that the old six cylinder was tired, power steering spewed fluid, steering and suspension  worn and on and on.

What to do? Like most in this situation my first instinct was to replace the old power plant with a tire smoking V8!! . However Sue encouraged me to make something unique using the original power train, and so project six begun. This definitely was not mainstream, but I was intrigued. I found a great deal of insight and hop up parts through Clifford’s and Ford Six performance. We had the short block reconditioned and milled; delta cam provided a custom bump stick for the project. A late model big valve head was had from the wrecking yard, then custom ground, milled and a Clifford’s port divider installed to smooth exhaust flow. Roller rockers and trick flow rods completed the long block .The little 200 c.i. now breathes thru a 350 Holley and a dual outlet header. Al's transmission rebuilt the original C4 and modified the converter for better acceleration. I replaced the ailing steering and suspension components and upgraded the front to 5 lug disc brakes. A 9”housing was obtained and Bob Wolf had the 3.25 gear housing I needed. I obtained a door from Lou Sellers, then disassembled, striped and painted to match.

We have a great deal of future work planed, the experience has been great and we have met many wonderful people along the way.
